What a Treat!

Community Project

Northfleet Central CIO partnered with the Romani Slovak Community CIC to celebrate St Nicholas Day with the distribution of 350 goody bags!

Pictured at Hive Hope Foodbank are Paul Avery, Caroline Pieroni and Andrea Jackova, CIO trustees. The bags were prepared by the Romani Slovak Community and contained a selection of fruit and sweet treats.

They were donated to Hive Hope Foodbank, Gravesham Foodbank and Gravesham Sanctuary for the homeless.

6th December  is known as The Feast of St. Nicholas or St. Nicholas Day, widely celebrated in Europe. Raised as a devout Christian, St. Nicholas dedicated his whole life to serving the sick and suffering. He is known for selling all his possessions and giving his money to the poor. He has a reputation as a bringer of gifts.

While St. Nicholas Day is not to be confused with Christmas, though similarities do exist. Tradition suggests leaving treats for good boys and girls; however, the naughty ones receive a twig or chunk of coal. St. Nicholas Day is celebrated worldwide on the anniversary of his death.
