Our Featured Project

The Northfleet
Pathway Project

Gravesham Borough Council and Ebbsfleet Development Corporation are working with Northfleet Central Charitable Incorporated Organisation to explore options for the re-use of the former Northfleet Coachworks building and adjacent land, next to Northfleet Station.

Statement on joint ambition for Northfleet Pathway

The Northfleet Pathway project aims to break down barriers for Northfleet residents, providing space for a range of uses that support local, inclusive economic growth and opportunity. At the heart of the project will be a safe space where young people can come together and explore opportunities for their future, including through skills development, and providing space for start-up businesses to develop their ideas.

For the first phase of the project, the project partners have joined forces with Creative Estuary through their Place Partnership Fund, to identify potential for the co-location of creative workspaces and programmes as part of the site offer to the benefit of the Northfleet community.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation bought the site to secure the potential for a proposed future extension to the Elizabeth Line to Northfleet. Whilst awaiting a decision on this extension, the partners are keen to use the site as a catalyst to support local need and ambition with an initial plan of use for up to 10 years.

Steve Stamp, Chair of Northfleet Central CIO writes,

We are really excited to be able to share the above announcement issued jointly by  Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) and Gravesham Borough Council (GBC)  confirming their ambition to work with us to develop a youth centre and other facilities on the land located next to Northfleet station.

Northfleet Central CIO which is a registered charity has been working for nearly eighteen months to devise a scheme which hopefully would provide the young people of Northfleet with a space for leisure activities and more importantly, opportunities to develop as individuals, learn new skills and generally improve their life chances.

Without exception everyone we had talked to welcomed the plan and recognised the need for our young people to have somewhere to meet. Having nothing to do leads to anti-social behaviour, increases vulnerability to drugs, reduces self esteem, lowers aspiration and above all removes hope that things can be better.

In September 2022 we applied for funding from a Department of Culture Media and Sport grant scheme to fit out the old coach house building as a youth centre and community facility. EDC and GBC jointly funded a feasibility study, and after consultation with many local organisations and young people, we submitted a detailed grant application. Despite a great deal of work we heard in June 2023 that our application was unsuccessful.

Later in the year, with encouragement from EDC we had another opportunity to bring the project to life. Over the last few months, again with the support of EDC and GBC,  the plans have been refined and broadened to hopefully deliver even greater benefits to the community.

The ‘Statement of Ambition’ is the first step, a big step, on the journey. In the forthcoming months a key part of the project will be to share the plans with the community, seek views and to involve others in making the project successful. An immediate and exciting leap forward is the involvement of ‘Creative Estuary’ who can bring their experience and energy to the project.

The project is called ‘Northfleet Pathway’. We have a strong team of people who I’m sure I can speak for everyone involved when I say “We will do our best to turn our ambition into a ‘pathway’ to a brighter future for our young people and the community”.

Neege Allen

Co-opted Trustee

About Neege Allen

I was co-opted to the board in September 2023, to bring my experience as an architect and local campaigner.

As founder of Gravesend Futures, as well as raising awareness on social media, I have led engagement with Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Gravesham Borough Council, and developers, on the larger regeneration proposals coming through in the area, since 2017. This often takes the form of input during pre-planning consultations, alternative proposals aimed at retention and re-use of heritage assets, and creative or best practice ideas to improve leisure, tourism and employment opportunities. My input, together with the Sulman 150 campaigning group was fundamental in winning the Planning Appeal to save the ex-Gurdwara building on Clarence Place from demolition.

I am a long-standing Director and LLP member of tp bennett, one of the largest architecture and design partnerships in London. Most of my projects are international, but I count himself a Gravesham ‘local’ since 2007, when I returned from living in Italy.

I am also a Trustee of Gravesham Sanctuary, and an active member of St. George’s Church.

Andrea Jackova

Trustee

About Andrea Jackova

I came to the UK nearly two decades ago from Slovakia, where I qualified as an Engineer. I worked for several years for Land Rover in Solihull, which enabled me to make use of my multilingual proficiency.

In 2009, I gained a Diploma in Public Service Interpreting at The University of Northampton and began working as a legal interpreter. My professional experience covers issues the community faces from both sides of the legal standpoint.

I have volunteered for several years, providing free help and advice to anyone in need, and developed an in-depth understanding of local issues. I initially worked as a community coordinator and delivered various projects in conjunction with the Local Authority and other partner agencies. I am a director of a local community organisation addressing people’s needs by providing free projects available for everyone.

In May 2022, I was called to The Bar of England and Wales, passing my law degree at The University of Law London. My legal roles have provided me with invaluable experience over the last few years. I benefited from working in the Immigration teams focusing on OISC Level 1 advice and care proceedings. I currently work as a trainee legal adviser at the Family Court.

I am honoured to be a trustee of Northfleet Central CIO and share my professional knowledge and experience.

Steve Stamp

Chairman

About Steve Stamp

My wife and I have lived most of our lives in Cheshire and moved to Gravesend just over 7 years ago to be near our daughter and her family who live locally. For over 30 years I was employed in the petrochemical industry in supervisory and then management roles.

After retiring, I joined an International Management Consultancy as a senior consultant working in UK, Europe and the Middle East, coaching board members and senior management of major blue chip companies in leadership and management of crisis and emergency situations.

Volunteering is an important part of my life; I was the Chairman of School Governors at our children’s primary school for five years and District Scout Chairman for six years. For many years I volunteered at the National Waterways Museum, where I was asked to join the Management Board, subsequently I became a Director and finally the Chairman of the Trust that owned the assets of the museum.

I have always believed it is important to support your community.  Since living in Gravesend I have been an unpaid Director of two local community companies.

I am excited to be working with the other Trustees of Northfleet Central CIO to improve the quality of life and life chances of the residents of Northfleet.
